Residents impacted by the Stein Lake forest fire near Saint Andrews could get financial help.
Last week, the town announced that about $10,000 had been raised by various organizations.
Officials said the money will be disbursed to those temporarily displaced by the fire or who suffered a loss.
The town said eligible costs that can be recouped by residents include:
- Hotel accommodations between May 27 and June 2
- Meals, either at a restaurant or groceries, paid between May 27 and June 2
- The loss of a primary residence
- Damage to a primary residence
- Damage to landscaping items such as fencing, gardens, pools, etc.
- Deductibles related to insurance loss
Hundreds of homes in Chamcook and Bocabec were evacuated during the fast-moving fire, which burned more than 500 hectares in total.
It took crews several days to get the fire under control and more than a month to fully extinguish it.
No one was hurt in the fire but one house was destroyed by the flames.
