Good news if you are looking to take a dip at one of New Brunswick’s provincial park beaches.
No-swimming advisories that were in place at six provincial park beaches have been lifted.
Affected parks included New River Beach, Oak Bay, Parlee Beach, Murray Beach, Miscou Island, and Mactaquac.
Officials said the advisories had been issued due to high levels of fecal bacteria in the water. In many cases, bacteria levels were several times higher than the national guidelines.
But the most recent testing showed the bacteria levels were back within the acceptable range.
Public Health said high bacteria levels can be caused by a number of factors, including heavy rains, high winds and waves, and lots of swimmers.
“Swimming in waters with bacteria levels above the Guideline Values does not mean that you will get sick, but it increases the risk,” said a post on the province’s beach water quality monitoring website.
“Levels can fluctuate through the day so there is always a small risk of exposure.”
