A northern New Brunswick man has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to a long list of drug charges stemming from a police search on his house last year.
Fifty-six-year-old Remi Duguay was in Mirimichi Provincial Court last Friday where he was sentenced to nine years in prison minus time already served for drug trafficking.
On August 24, 2022, the RCMP arrested him and subsequently executed a search warrant on his home Cains Point Road in Tabusintac. They seized large amounts of methamphetamine pills, crystal methamphetamine, cocaine, pills believed to contain fentanyl, oxycodone pills, hydromorphone pills and several other prescription pills. They also found a large quantity of money and drug trafficking paraphernalia.
“This seizure represents a serious disruption to the illegal drug trade,” says Cpl. Hans Ouellette of the New Brunswick RCMP in a press release at the time.
The New Brunswick RCMP’s Provincial Crime Reduction Unit had been investigating drug trafficking in the Acadian Peninsula, Miramichi, Esgenoôpetitj First Nation, and greater Moncton regions for over a month. They also arrested a 25-year-old woman at the home during the search.
