Name something teachers do for fun. The survey says, to compete on Family Feud Canada!
That’s the response from Bernice MacNaughton High School in Moncton.
Their team was chosen for the first Teachers’ Week, which was shot last month in Toronto.
The team consists of Rebecca Moore (Music), Linda Touchie (Music), Steve Cormier (Digital Production, Journalism), Lindsay Dominie (Guidance), and Eric Matheson (Biology, Pathology, Health Care). Martin Daigle was chosen as the alternate.
Moore says they were flown to Toronto, courtesy of CBC, along with their spouses, “A whole week of episodes are filmed in one day. That’s four episodes in one day. So all of Teachers Week was filmed on Sunday, August 13. There were eight schools represented so it was just really fun getting to meet the different teams from across Canada. I can tell you there were three teams from the Maritimes. So the Maritimes are pretty well represented.”
Over 100 teams auditioned and that was narrowed to just eight teams.
Moore adds that they had to be there at 8 a.m. and they spent 13 hours in the studio.
The BMHS teachers went head to head with a team from Nova Scotia, “I believe their team captain was originally from Moncton, and the team captain for the BMHS team is originally from Nova Scotia,” Moore adds.

Music Teacher Linda Touchie couldn’t say if they made it to the Fast Money round, but she did tell us what they would use the money for if they did.
“The main reason that we did this, well, besides having fun is to raise money, is for our theatre. Our theatre is from the 1970s. It has the original carpet. We have lost so many seats over the years. There are about 100 to 110 seats that are no longer usable. You go to sit down and there’s nothing there. So we really need to start getting some funding for our theatre. Our district is being kind and they’re helping but we need to raise a third of the money and then they’re going to raise the other two-thirds,” Touchie says.
The show will air on CBC on September 21st. The teachers have a viewing party planned at Bernice MacNaughton High School. The doors open at 6:45 p.m.
“We’re going to do a little Q and A after the episode airs, share some of our footage and videos from our trip to Toronto. Just trying to make it a nice fun community event and then see what happens on the air. We’re quite curious, to see what they’ve kept to put in,” Touchie adds.
