The town of Quispamsis has become the latest New Brunswick municipality to restrict flyer delivery in the community.
Council passed a bylaw Tuesday that allows residents to opt out by placing a “No Flyers” sign on their property.
Coun. Noah Donovan, who voted in favour of the bylaw, said he is excited to see this change move forward.
“I’ve gotten, I’m sure as everybody has, numerous phone calls and emails about flyers being jammed up in snowblowers,” said Donovan.
The new bylaw also bans distributors from being able to simply toss flyers into your driveway. Instead, they must be placed in your mailbox, mail slot, or on your doorstep.
“I think this approach is certainly in line with the town of Rothesay and the city of Saint John and I think it provides a good happy medium going forward,” said Donovan.
Saint John recently enacted its own flyer bylaw while neighbouring Rothesay is in the process of doing the same.
While Saint John still allows for flyers to be tossed in driveways, the proposed bylaw being considered in Rothesay bans that practice.
Fines for not following the new bylaw in Quispamsis range from $140 to $2,100 per offence.
