With the impacts of Hurricane Lee just hours away, the city of Saint John is asking residents to take precautions.
The storm is expected to bring 50 to 100 millimetres of rain to the city and wind gusts up to 100 kilometres per hour.
“Travel is not recommended if possible,” the city said in a news release late Friday.
Low-lying areas are expected to experience flooding and city officials said it could last for several days.
Saint John EMO also recommends having a 72-hour emergency kit ready to go as power outages are possible.
The public is also reminded to stay away from shorelines and beaches as storm surges are expected.
Irving Nature Park closed as of Thursday afternoon in anticipation of the storm. People are asked to stay away from the park, including beaches.
“Delays to some city services, including Saint John Transit, are expected and closures may occur as the storm peaks,” said the release.
