A well-known restaurant on Saint John’s Market Square boardwalk has closed its doors for good.
The owner of McGill’s made the announcement in a social media post on Sunday night.
“This decision does not come lightly,” Corey McGill wrote in the post, which had been shared more than 180 times as of mid-morning Monday.
“We have done as much as we could to keep the business viable for the last three and half years.”
McGill said they have faced “many challenges that compromised the business” in recent years.
That includes the public health measures due to COVID-19 and the ongoing redevelopment of the waterfront.
Construction of the Fundy Quay development has disassembled restaurant patios over the past two seasons. The city installed temporary patios for use until the new permanent four-season patios can be built.
“Unfortunately, we are unable to continue operating while waiting for the end of the construction project and have made this difficult and sad decision to close the business,” wrote McGill.
McGill went on to thank all of the employees who worked in the business, especially those who stayed on over the past few years.
He said the guests and regulars were the reason they opened their doors each and every day.
“The relationships that have grown over the years mean so much to both me and my family,” wrote McGill.
Good day,It is with profound disappointment that I must inform all of you that we have made the decision to close…
