The death of an inmate from Atlantic Institution in Renous is under investigation.
Correctional Service Canada says Matthew Marshall died in custody on Sunday.
Marshall was serving a sentence of more than 10 years for a number of charges, including:
- robbery;
- failure to comply with a probation officer;
- possession of a prohibited/restricted firearm with ammunition (x2);
- assault causing bodily harm (x3);
- possession of a controlled substance;
- assault with intentional use of force;
- unauthorized possession of a firearm/prohibited or restricted weapon in a motor vehicle;
- possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order;
- assaulting a peace officer (x2);
- carrying a concealed weapon; and
- prison breach with intent.
“As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will review the circumstances,” corrections officials said in a news release.
