Saint John Police are conducting an aggressive driving campaign this week.
The campaign’s goal is to discourage aggressive driving behaviours and hold those accountable for putting other drivers at risk.
Officers will target offences such as speeding, tailgating, unsafe lane changes, disobeying traffic control devices, and driving without due care and attention.
New Brunswick recently passed legislation that includes stiffer penalties for excessive speeding.
- Speeding 50-80 km/h over the posted limit = $500 fine, five demerit points, and vehicle impounded for 7 days
- Speeding 80 km/h or more over the posted limit = $1,000 fine, six demerit points, and vehicle impounded for 30 days
Authorities strongly advise drivers to follow the speed limit, maintain adequate following distance, and slow down in construction zones.
