Are you looking to donate items so they do not end up at the landfill but do not know where to turn?
Those items can find a new home this weekend thanks to the Fundy Regional Service Commission.
The commission is holding an event in east Saint John on Saturday called ReUse Connections.
“What we’re doing is providing a venue for people to come and drop off gently used items,” said Brenda MacCallum, manager of community development and public relations.
“We are working with local charitable organizations who can take those items and resell them.”
MacCallum said a number of local not-for-profits are participating, including Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore.
She said the goal is to keep items out of the landfill while raising awareness about how local organizations can repurpose them.
“Sometimes it’s a little too easy to toss these items out when they could have another life,” said MacCallum.
The Fundy Regional Service Commission is accepting the following items in good, working condition:
- Furniture, such as couches and chairs
- Small household items
- Small décor items
- Toys
- Clothing (in clear plastic bags, if possible)
You can also drop off electronic items, such as computers, TVs and VCRs. MacCallum said they do not have to be in working order as they can still be recycled.
ReUse Connections takes place at Saint John Exhibition Park from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
