Two people have been arrested in connection with separate stolen vehicle investigations in Saint John.
Police said a car was reported stolen from a business on Sandy Point Road around 8:10 a.m. Friday.
A patrol officer spotted the vehicle driving along Union Street around 6:25 p.m. and officers conducted a traffic stop on Germain Street.
“As police approached the driver’s door, the suspect reportedly drove forward, collided with a parked police car, and then fled the area,” police said in a news release on Monday.
Police said the vehicle was later found abandoned in the parking lot of a business off Westmorland Road on the east side.
Several officers, including police service dog Maverick, began searching for the driver, who was located near Majors Brook Drive.
The 19-year-old was arrested for possessing stolen property, assault with a weapon, dangerous driving, and flight from police. They were remanded into custody and are scheduled to return to court on Monday.
Meanwhile, at around 9 a.m. Saturday, police said a car was reported stolen from Roberts Court in the north end.
About an hour later, police responded to a report of the vehicle driving erratically on Rothesay Road heading out of the city.
“The Kennebecasis Regional Police were notified and also responded,” police said in the release.
“Officers located the vehicle, attempted to stop it on Rothesay Road when it lost control and drove off the roadway.”
The 24-year-old driver was arrested at the scene and held in custody for a court appearance on Monday.
Police said no injuries were reported in either incident.
