St. Andrews by-the-Sea will once again be filled with Christmas spirit this holiday season.
The fourth annual Sparkle by-the-Sea celebration will take place this weekend.
It begins with lighting the famous lobster trap Christmas tree decorated with bouy ornaments in Market Square on Friday evening.
“Everyone in town who makes and puts a bouy on the tree also donates $30 to our local food bank and raises thousands of dollars every winter,” said co-chair Vicki Hogarth.
Local businesses participating will extend their hours until 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
The Sparkle “hub” at Char & Chowder on Water Street will host live music performed by local artists all weekend long.
Sculpture artist Joel “Swampy Bear” Palmer will be outside of Town Hall on Saturday, speaking to the crowd about how he creates his sculptures that have been seen on the reality competition show “A Cut Above.”
“It does feel like stepping back in time. We don’t have neon signs and that kind of thing so it does feel like a Hallmark Christmas movie or a children’s storybook,” said Hogarth.
Other events such as a toy drive and a telethon broadcasted on CHCO-TV will take place over the weekend.
Saint Andrews will run more Christmas events until Boxing Day, ending with the Dwaine Williams Memorial Hockey Game.
