A 54-unit townhome development is being proposed in the town of Rothesay.
The townhouses would be built in the area of School Avenue and Kaitlyn Street.
Developer Stephen Maltby says they’ll have a variety of one- and two-level options, ranging from 1,200 to 1,500 square feet.
“We’ll increase density in an area that’s perfectly situated as we capitalize on the existing infrastructure,” Maltby told a public hearing on Tuesday night.
“Our new development will consist of the types of homes that are considered the ‘missing middle.'”
Maltby said the project would provide much-needed options for both long-time residents looking to downsize and young families searching for their first home.
The local developer said he is aiming to build homes that are in the low $400,000 range. Once approved, he said the townhouses would be completed within three years.
Maltby said he plans to build the townhouses in eight blocks, with six or seven homes in each one.
Several residents who spoke at the public hearing raised concerns about increased traffic heading onto Gondola Point Road.
Town manager John Jarvie said they will be looking at traffic control devices to help alleviate those concerns.
Council did not make any decisions about the project at the hearing. They will vote on the rezoning required for the development at future meetings.
