New Brunswick saw a drop in COVID-19 hospital admissions but an increase in deaths during the first full week of November, according to Public Health.
The latest Respiratory Watch report shows 44 hospitalizations between Nov. 5 and 11, with three people admitted to an intensive care unit.
That was compared to 52 hospital admissions and four ICU admissions the previous week.
A majority of the patients — 34 of them — were aged 65 and over. There were also six people aged 45 to 64, three people aged 20 to 44, and one person under the age of five.
The ICU admissions involved one patient aged 65 and over, one between the ages of 45 and 64 and one aged 20 to 44, according to Public Health.
Four more patients with COVID died in the hospital during that week, compared to two the previous week. All four were aged 65 and over.
There were 122 new COVID cases reported — up from 114 cases the previous week — and the test positivity rate stood at 13 per cent.
However, the actual number of new cases is likely much higher as PCR tests are only available when requested by a primary care provider.
In addition, there were 11 lab-confirmed COVID outbreaks reported, including five in nursing homes, which was similar to the week before.
