A big birthday win for a New Brunswick snowplow operator.
Derrek Barton of York County stopped at the store to buy milk and at the same time picked up his Lotto 6/49 tickets for the January 6th draw.
The Harvey Station man had heard rumblings in the days following about someone winning a $1 million prize in the Gold Ball draw, but he never dreamed it could be him.
“When the lady at the store checked the tickets, she looked up at me and her colour just drained,” Barton said. “She said, ‘Oh my goodness,’ and congratulated me, telling me I won a lot of money, so I thought I won $1,000 and that was pretty great.”
Barton works as a snowplow operator for the province of New Brunswick. He likes his work and his co-workers so he plans to continue working, but said his win will set them up for the future and to never have a financial worry again. He also plans to purchase a side-by-side with the prize money.
