A police watchdog is investigating whether a Sussex RCMP officer distributed intimate images while on duty.
The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) said it was contacted by the Sussex detachment of the RCMP in January.
It is alleged that an officer may have taken and shared intimate images of a man in custody without his knowledge in April.
According to investigators, the situation came to the RCMP’s attention during an internal investigation on an unrelated matter.
“In accordance with the Police Act, the RCMP contacted the SiRT which has assumed responsibility for the investigation as a matter of public interest to be investigated,” SiRT said in a news release on Tuesday.
An independent civilian director will determine whether charges should be laid at the conclusion of the investigation.
