Cox & Palmer is teaming up with Habitat for Humanity, one of the country’s largest non-profits, to help build homes for those in need throughout New Brunswick.
The law firm started the “Cox & Palmer Cares” volunteer initiative in 2023. It saw more than 100 employees donate over 300 volunteer hours and fund upwards of 50 grants across New Brunswick.
Shannon McLaughlin, marketing manager with Cox & Palmer, said they sponsored a Habitat for Humanity golf tournament and began to discuss the provincial housing crisis.
“I started talking about how many volunteers we kinda had and how our values were aligned and it was a particularly exciting partnership for us because they’re building three homes in the same cities where we have offices and live, which are Saint John, Fredericton, and Moncton,” said McLaughlin.
She said Cox & Palmer employees will participate with tradespeople, volunteers, and other sponsors to build the three homes this coming spring.
Perry Kendall, CEO of Habitat for Humanity New Brunswick, said they are thankful to the law firm for its commitment to helping improve living situations for families in need.
“It is vital that we all work together to address the affordable housing crisis in our province and throughout our country,” Kendall said in a news release.
McLaughlin said she hopes other like-minded organizations see other ways to resource projects, adding Habitat for Humanity is a deserving partner.
“Outside of these three home builds that Cox & Palmer are helping with, they also have one happening in Miramichi and another one in Shediac,” said McLaughlin.
“If you have a small or large organization, I truly believe the benefits of an initiative like this are not only that it has for the cause and the community but also team morale is a win-win.”
Upon completion, Cox & Palmer and Habitat for Humanity will pass the house keys to the families that will benefit from this initiative.
