A Saint John community group are holding public meetings to discuss the possible reopening of a controversial scrapyard.
American Iron and Metal’s (AIM) waterfront operations have been suspended since a catastrophic fire in September.
However, the company is taking the province to court as it seeks to have the suspension of its approval to operate quashed.
Liveable Saint John is preparing a series of public engagement activities to better understand the public impact.
“These activities include a series of online engagement sessions, a survey, and a petition,” the group said in a news release.
“The objective of this public engagement activity is to produce a set of recommendations, based on public feedback, on how AIM can be better regulated by the Department of the Environment, in the interest of public health and safety.”
The first public meeting will take place at the Lancaster Mall community room at 2 p.m. Saturday.
A second one will happen at the Saint John Free Public Library in Market Square at 6 p.m. on April 11.
Community members are also being invited to share their thoughts and experiences in an online survey.
