There were nine fatalities involving a motorcycle in 2023, according to the New Brunswick RCMP.
To mark Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, police remind drivers and riders to be extra cautious, respect and share the road.
With the summer months quickly approaching and temperatures warming up, more riders will be hitting the roads and highways.
Mounties say contributing factors leading to motorcycle crashes across the province continue to be the visibility of the motorcycle, aggressive driving and inexperience.
Police also say motorcyclists are among the most vulnerable road users, and ask drivers to always make sure the intersection is clear before proceeding, and to be extra cautious when turning left.
RCMP data from 2023 showed that out of the nine fatalities, nearly 40 per cent of the collisions were related to speed and that another 25 per cent of motorcyclists were not wearing a helmet.
Officers strongly advise riders to always wear a government-approved helmet, avoid riding in a vehicle’s blind spot and keep a safe driving distance.
