The Atlantic Salmon Federation (ASF) in Saint Andrews has appointed Louie Porta as the next president and CEO.
ASF officials say Porta is an experienced conservationist who’s executive director and founder of Canada’s largest ocean-focused charity, Oceans North.
He has also been a senior advisor to the International Institute of Sustainable Development and represents Canada on the Commission for Environmental Cooperation.
Starting this summer, Porta will work alongside outgoing CEO Bill Taylor, who will officially step down on September 30 and remain with ASF as a senior advisor.
Chair of ASF’s U.S. Board of Directors, Eric W. Roberts, said Taylor’s 29-year legacy as CEO is the recognition of ASF as the global leader in wild Atlantic salmon conservation, research, and proving that conservation works.
“Bill Taylor has helped make ASF into the conservation force it is today. We are confident that Louie will build on this and help us address current and future threats facing wild Atlantic salmon,” said Roberts.
“After decades of decline, Atlantic salmon returns to North America have stabilized and are increasing in many regions. Bill and the ASF team have played a significant part in this achievement.”
