Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he has “issues” with the Higgs government.
He made the comments during a news conference in Caraquet, N.B., on Thursday.
Trudeau made reference to the Higgs government’s push to scrap the federal carbon tax.
He also focused on controversial changes that were made to the province’s school gender identity policy.
“I trust parents, I trust schools, and I don’t think we should be trying to score political points off of kids who are incredibly vulnerable, who shouldn’t be targeted by political parties wanting to get elected or re-elected,” said Trudeau.
The prime minister went on to accuse the Higgs government of not respecting women’s rights to choose.
Trudeau said it is a “disgrace” that the province has chosen not to fund abortions outside of hospitals.
“It is on the Government of New Brunswick to demonstrate that they are going to be there to protect women’s rights right across the province,” he said.
“The shutting down of health and reproductive services offered by Clinic 554, the unwillingness to engage in allowing women to actually choose what happens to their future and their bodies is a disgrace.”
Trudeau was in New Brunswick to highlight the national school food program announced in his government’s latest budget.
