Provincial officials have released new details about an incident that sidelined one of the ferries between Deer Island and mainland New Brunswick.
The Transportation Safety Board said Thursday it deployed two investigators to look into an “incident” involving the Deer Island Princess II.
“The investigation has just begun, and our investigators are on their way to Deer Island as we speak. Which is why the information on the release is the only one we can share at this time,” a spokesperson said in an email to our newsroom.
The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, which owns the vessel, said the ferry sustained damage to one of its drive propellers on Thursday morning.
“Transport Canada was advised as required. Repairs are underway and the vessel is expected to return to service Saturday,” the department said in a statement to our newsroom late Friday afternoon.
A department spokesperson said the Transportation Safety Board has not launched an investigation into the incident.
Coastal Transport, the company that operates the ferry, did not respond to a request for comment from our newsroom.
Meanwhile, officials said a second ferry to Deer Island remains in operation.
