Maritime Riot is a newly created, community-supported listing website for music, arts, and culture in the Saint John region.
The website is run and produced by members of Industrial Parks Collective, a local production company that provides resources, collaboration, and learning opportunities for artists and creative professionals seeking project support and career development.
Raven Blue, the executive director of Industrial Parks Collective, says the website will be an alternative to social media.
“It’s hidden talent but it also could be Snoop Dogg, or it could be an indie band playing at Haven, but we wanted to put everything in one place,” said Blue.
“A lot of people are quitting Facebook and other platforms, so I think there’s a mass exodus, so if you’re looking for a movie, or music, or something happening at an art gallery, then there’s one place where you can find all of it.”
Blue says the website also looks at events in Saint Andrews, Hampton, Sussex, Fredericton, and Moncton.
Updates to the site are every Wednesday, so listings are fresh in time for the weekend.
There are no fees to submit an event, but Blue says donations are encouraged.
Maritime Riot will host an official launch event at Art Warehouse at 7 p.m. on June 20.
It will include an overview of the website, a showcase of local visual art, and a performance by local artist Sade Paige.
