It’s graduation time and that has salons on their toes.
Holly Hudson has been a Hairstylist for around 20 years.
She says there are some common styles this year for graduation and prom, “Most guys don’t come and get their hair done for prom unless they’re looking for a colour service. For females, it’s a little tousled, soft looking, either down with a braid or half up. Just simple, not anything like you’d see like back in the 80s or 90s with very tight ringlets, that’s not in style anymore.”
Appointments are usually booked months in advance. If you forgot to call your stylist, Hudson says at this point, you’re probably out of luck.
“At least two to four weeks ahead is ideal, just to be sure you get in. You don’t want to be stuck, and then your mom is left to do your hair for prom,” Hudson joked.
She always advises clients to wear a loose-fitting or button-up shirt, so changing into gowns or prom attire can be easily done without messing up their hair.
There are some do’s and don’ts when choosing that perfect hairstyle for prom or graduation.
“I wouldn’t drastically colour my hair a few days before, because if there was a boo-boo, the client is in tears if it’s unfixable. Some people go on Pinterest and they pick something out style-wise, but they may not have the right hair type, the length, or the thickness for the style, so that’s not going to work either,” Hudson adds.
