A former PC MLA has announced his intentions to run for the Liberals in the upcoming election.
Bruce Northrup will seek the Liberal nomination for the riding of Sussex Three Rivers.
He previously served as the natural resource minister and four terms as a Progressive Conservative MLA.
Northrup plans to come out of retirement after he expressed disappointment with the current Higgs government.
“I care deeply about this town and its people, and after seeing the disappointing leadership of this
government and its current MLA, I have decided to seek the Liberal nomination in Sussex Three Rivers,”
declared Bruce Northup. “I know that Susan Holt’s leadership style and her vision for decision-making
that gets brought back to the hands of the people in the community is the right thing for Sussex; I look
forward to joining her team.”
During Northup’s time as an MLA, he spoke out on numerous issues including the Higgs government’s attempts to close rural hospitals in 2020.
“I have been following Higgs closely over the past year, and I don’t think he or the current MLA are
serving the needs of the people of Sussex. While they are focused on distractions, the people of Sussex
are deeply concerned about issues like flood adaptation and whether our hospital is adequately
equipped to care for the people in this community,” said Bruce Northrup.
He says he has received the green light from the New Brunswick Liberal Party.
A nomination meeting for the Sussex Three Rivers riding will be held in the summer.
