You’re likely going to find it hard to cool off over the next couple of days.
It is very hot and muggy with parts of Eastern Canada under heat warning.
Temperatures are soaring so high they could feel as hot as 45 degrees in some areas.
Jennifer Smith, the National Warning Preparedness Meteorologist from the Environment and Climate Change Canada says what makes this heat wave so rare is the fact it hit so early in the season.
“So not only has it been hot, but it has been incredibly humid or muggy. Which makes it a lot harder to cool off.”
The humidity also makes thunderstorms more favorable.
Smith adds that temperatures are also staying warm through the night, which she says makes the heat event worse because there is limited relief.
She says the heat could last until Sunday in some areas.
Heat illness
Peter Berry, Senior Policy Analyst and Science Advisor from Health Canada says the heat could also affect your health.
He says to be prepared for hot weather, know the signs of heat illness including dizziness, nausea and extreme thirst and how to cool off.
“Stay cool. The most effective ways to protect yourself from extreme heat, while indoors, in addition to staying hydrated is using air conditioning, blocking the sun by using awnings curtains or blinds during the day.”
Berry also suggests using fans, taking cool baths, cooking meals that don’t need to be cooked in an oven and spending time in a cool place like a library.
