Atlantic Canada’s largest annual sporting event takes place in Saint John this weekend.
The East Coast Games will attract more than 3,000 athletes from Atlantic Canada and Maine.
Kelly Lynch, one of the event’s directors, said there is a lot of excitement heading into the weekend.
“I feel like lots more people know about this event now,” Lynch said in an interview.
“In the past, it was kind of like ‘East Coast Games, what?’ But now I think that it’s a household thing.”
The East Coast Games started in 2015 with six sports. This year, there are 25 sports, including four new additions.
“They are golf, pickleball — everybody’s new favourite sport, soccer is back, and we’re very excited that flag football is joining us,” said Lynch.
With the addition of flag football comes the very first flag football tournament ever to be held in New Brunswick, according to organizers.
Events begin on Friday and continue through Sunday. You can find the full schedule below.
