An increase in break-ins and thefts has residents in Fundy Shores growing frustrated.
The mayor and council have arranged a community meeting with the RCMP next week.
Mayor Denny Cogswell said they requested a meeting with the Mounties this past spring.
“It stemmed a little bit more from some break-ins and theft we’ve had, mostly in the New River and Pocologan area,” said Cogswell.
“But since then, we’ve had a few more stemming in the Lepreau area. There’s been between eight and 10 thefts or break-ins.”
Cogswell says some residents in the municipality are getting concerned and many are frustrated.
Fundy Shores covers the communities of Chance Harbour, Dipper Harbour, Lepreau, Little Lepreau, Maces Bay, Musquash, New River, Pocologan and Prince of Wales.
The mayor added that they have nothing against the frontline officers who are working in their communities.
“Myself and my council fully support the frontline officers. I believe they’re doing the best they can with the resources they have throughout the region,” he said.
Cogwell expressed disappointment with how 51 new RCMP officers announced last fall were allocated throughout the province.

The Southwest New Brunswick Service Commission (RSC 10), which includes Fundy Shores, is only receiving one new officer.
The RSC also includes the communities of Blacks Harbour, Campobello Island, Grand Manan, Harvey, McAdam, Saint Andrews, St. George, and St. Stephen.
“That was quite a hit for us that we felt that we deserved more than one officer,” said Cogswell. “We cover a large area and we need a bigger presence within our region.”
Cogswell said the RCMP community meeting will be a chance for residents to voice their concerns and get feedback.
The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Fundy Bay 50+ Club in Maces Bay.
