A “period of intense rainfall” is expected for parts of New Brunswick overnight Tuesday and into Wednesday, according to Environment Canada.
The national weather agency issued a special weather statement for central and southern regions of the province Tuesday evening.
Forecasters said between 30 and 50 millimetres of rain could fall by mid-morning Wednesday with locally higher amounts.
Rainfall rates could exceed 40 millimetres per hour at times, according to the national weather agency.
“Heavy downpours can cause flash flooding and pooling of water. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible,” said the statement.
The rain is part of the same system that brought torrential rainfall to Toronto earlier in the day.
Several streets throughout the city were flooded and tens of thousands were left without electricity.
