The Saint John Airport is making it more convenient for drivers to pick up a friend or loved one.
Airport officials recently unveiled a new cell phone waiting lot not far from the terminal.
Drivers can park for free while waiting in their vehicle for a call or text from their arriving passengers.
Once the passengers are ready to be picked up, the driver then heads to the designated pick-up area.
“This initiative aligns with our commitment to improving the overall airport experience while also addressing environmental and safety concerns,” Lori Carle, manager of marketing and public & corporate relations, said in a news release.
“The feedback from users has been very positive, highlighting the lot’s convenience and effectiveness.”
Officials said the waiting lot reduces the number of vehicles circling the airport or idling on the side of Loch Lomond Road, which is a potential safety hazard.
The airport said that leads to a reduction in emissions and contributes to their ongoing efforts to promote environmentally sustainable practices.
Many major airports in the country have their own cell phone waiting lots, including the Toronto Pearson Airport and Montreal-Trudeau International Airport.
