The third Mariners Music Fest, taking place in St. George from Aug. 15 to 18, will feature a variety of musical genres.
The Mariners Alumni Association organized the event for high school alumni from St. George, Back Bay, and Blacks Harbour that pre-existed Fundy Middle and High School (FMHS).
Co-founder Wilfred Langmaid was a member of the first graduating class at FMHS in 1978 and said organizers want to unite people with music while helping graduating students.
“Every year we’ve been very proud to award a bursary to a Fundy Middle and High School graduate who’s going into post-secondary education,” said Langmaid.
Langmaid said the bursary is eligible as long as the student attends post-secondary.
He also said the festival weekend features new events such as a seniors tea on Thursday afternoon at the St. George Masonic Hall, a Friday Mariners Music Fest BBQ alongside a 3×3 basketball tournament and alumni games at Magaguadavic Place, a Saturday brunch at The Hub, and a Sunday roast beef supper at the St. George Masonic Hall.
The core event, a 10-hour festival featuring a variety of local performers, is taking place at the Hollows Golf Club on Aug. 17 with The Mike Chase Band closing the Saturday program.
Organizers also said a memorabilia display on Saturday will include items from the 1930s onward with an open invitation to all to bring their items to show that day.
Tickets for Saturday are $12 in advance and $15 at the door on the day of the event. Admission is free for Hollows Golf Club members, but donations are welcome.
Langmaid also said the Mariners Alumni Association is happy to receive a grant from Arts & Culture NB in support of the Mariners Music Fest.
