A community and regional favourite in Greater Saint John is returning for the first time in several years.
Buskers on the Boardwalk will take place in the renovated waterfront plaza from Aug. 9 to 11.
The popular event has not been held in Saint John since 2019 due to COVID-19 and the waterfront construction.
Trevor Georgie, president and CEO of JSM Sports & Entertainment, said they are excited to bring it back.
“It’s been a partnership with the restaurants down on the boardwalk, Market Square, the city and Envision to bring this back,” Georgie said in an interview.
“I think we’re going to make a lot of folks happy, a lot of families happy, a lot of people who enjoyed that festival.”
Buskers perform music or other entertainment in the street or another public place for monetary donations.
Four buskers are scheduled to perform at this year’s festival:
- Julia Perron’s solo act combines acrobatics, fire manipulation, music, and comedy.
- Lucas Stark’s performance features a mix of fire acts, daring circus stunts, mind-bending escapes and mind-reading.
- Patrick Drake, a comedy magician and musician of international acclaim, brings his sleight of hand and humour.
- Yoshi, the skilled circus juggler from Ottawa, showcases a decade of professional training and expertise
All four will perform several times daily throughout the three-day festival.
“This year, given the moving target for when the opening of the boardwalk, we have I’d say a consensed event compared to previous years,” said Georgie.
“But this year one of a long-term plan to have it here and have it stay in the city and grow and grow and grow dramatically year over year.”
While the event is free, attendees are encouraged to tip the buskers after their shows.
