A shopping trip in downtown Fredericton has paid off for a New Brunswick man.
Clifford Lavigne of Moncton uncovered a Set for Life top prize of $675,000.
The former teacher of 30 years was in the province’s capital to visit his adult son.
After visiting a comic book store, they went to a local drug store, where Lavigne purchased the ticket.
“Then we went to a burger place, my son and I, and I scratched the ticket there. When I looked at it I knew I’d won something,” he said.
Lavigne is a regular Lotto Max and Lotto 6/49 player but only buys Scratch’N Win tickets “once in a blue moon,” he said.
In disbelief, he waited until he got back to Moncton before validating his ticket.
“I didn’t really want to get it verified because I wanted to have a clear mind for the drive home. I didn’t want to get too excited,” said Lavigne.
Lavigne does not yet have any specific plans for the prize but said it would provide added security for him, his wife, and their children and grandchildren.
