A New Brunswick RCMP officer has been charged with aggravated assault.
The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) announced the charge on Monday.
It stemmed from an arrest in Richmond Corner, near Woodstock, on June 13.
According to investigators, the woman reported being struck in the face.
“The Director of the Serious Incident Response Team has reasonable and probable grounds to believe that an RCMP officer committed a criminal offence,” SiRT said in a news release.
The officer is scheduled to appear in court in October.
SiRT investigates all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault, intimate partner violence or other matters of public interest that may have arisen from the actions of any police officer in New Brunswick.
