Up to 80 tiny affordable homes could be built on Saint John’s east side.
In an interview with our newsroom, Mayor Donna Reardon expressed her enthusiasm about the growing awareness of the city’s housing and homelessness crisis.
“It’s been overwhelming in a way, and cities are not equipped with the money or the resources to really deal with it, but it’s our citizens, and we’re in the trenches with them,” said Reardon.
She also shared her appreciation for the project concept and is eager to witness its success.
The Sunnyside Tiny Home community is a partnership between local business leaders, Saint John Energy, the United Way and Fredericton’s 12 Neighbours community.
Before construction can start, the project must first go through a rezoning application with the city.
The projected budget stands at around $10 million, and United Way Maritimes plans to reach out for assistance from various levels of government.
