If you order from Amazon frequently, the RCMP are out with a word of caution.
Police are looking into a coordinated scam involving the shipping company and someone pretending to be a police officer.
It stems from a call a person in Lawrencetown, N.S., received about odd activity on their Amazon account and transactions were being investigated by the RCMP.
The caller claimed to be from Amazon and said matter was being turned over to the RCMP to investigate the transactions.
They were then told to withdraw a sum of money and deliver it to a bogus undercover RCMP officer, who would show up to collect it.
The scammers also provided the victim with the phone number for the Nova Scotia RCMP headquarters, as well as a fake name for a police officer who was supposedly working on the file.
That evening, a man described as being in his mid-thirties with light curly hair arrived at the victim’s residence to get the money. He was driving a black Ford Fusion with a New Brunswick licence plate.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police.
