Provincial rivals Saint John Sea Dogs and Moncton Wildcats kicked off the 56th Quebec Maraitime Junoir Hockey League (QMJHL) season Friday.
The first and second periods remained scoreless between the two teams at Saint John’s TD Station, with goaltender Edward-Charles Gravel, who was acquired by the Sea Dogs from the Baie-Comeau Drakkar during the offseason, stopping 21 shots on goal (SOG), while the Wildcats netminder Jacob Steinman, who’s in his third-year player with the team, also stopped the 21 pucks shot at him.
The game got more competitive going into the third period when Wildcats Right Winger Alex Mercier scored the first goal of the game, making it 1-0 Wildcats with 7:51 left in the 3rd period. The assists were made by Left Winger, #26 Julius Sumpf, and Defencemen, #24 Adam Fortier-Gendron.
Center, #23 Riley Sampson scores the second goal of the night with an assist by Left Winger #90 Pier-Etienne Cloutier, Sampson would then score his second goal of the night with an assist from Defencemen, #2 Ryan Hackett.

The Wildcats will also play the Islanders in Prince Edward Island on Sunday, September 22nd, before playing the Acadie-Bathurst Titan for their first home game at the Avenir Centre on Saturday, September 28th.
