Two people are dead after a crash near the Confederation Bridge.
On September 22, around 3:47 p.m., police were called to the scene of a head-on crash involving a minivan and a pick-up truck towing a trailer on Route 16 in Melrose.
A 43-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman, both from Charlottetown, P.E.I., died at the scene.
The driver of the pick-up truck, who was the only person in the vehicle, was taken to the hospital with injuries that were serious but not considered life-threatening.
Investigators believe the incident occurred when the minivan, heading east, crossed over the center line and collided directly with the pickup truck.
Members of the Port Elgin Fire Department, Ambulance New Brunswick, and the Department of Justice and Public Safety attended the scene.
A collision reconstructionist from the RCMP and a representative from the New Brunswick Coroner’s Office were on the scene. Autopsies are set to reveal the precise cause of death for the two victims.
The investigation remains ongoing.
