Moncton is getting a new pro-basketball team.
David Magley, the president of The Basketball League, is set to make an announcement on Saturday about the team, to “discuss the future of professional basketball” in the Moncton area, according to a news release.
The new team market owner, Dustin Caissie, will also be at the news conference, which will happen at about 11:30 a.m. at the St. Louis bar and grill on Mountain Road.
Caissie owns two furniture stores in the area and practices law at his own firm in Riverview.
He’s also a former coach for the Crandall Chargers university team and the Moncton Miracles during their first season.
The league is in its seventh year, with 44 teams across North America.
Magley recently announced Saint John would get the first team in Atlantic Canada, the Port City Power. The second team announced was the Halifax Hoopers.
In Halifax, Magley said the team would likely use a university gym to avoid the high cost of removing the ice at the Scotiabank Arena for games. This would help keep down the costs of the teams and, hopefully, give the league for longevity than previous ones, he said.
