The municipality of Eastern Charlotte says work continues to address water quality issues in Blacks Harbour.
Connors Bros., which owns the water source, recently did an internal scan of the main distribution line.
“The scan identified a leak on the distribution line and Connors Bros. currently has plans to repair the leak area during October 18-19,” the municipality said in a Thursday news release.
Those repairs may lead to a boil order for all water users, according to the municipality, adding that they will notify users through the municipal alert system if required.
Connors Bros. plans to schedule a cleaning of its water reservoir once that is done and, if needed, conduct another scan of the water line.
The municipality said it will also conduct a water flush program in Blacks Harbour and look to have the municipal-owned water reservoir at French Village cleaned.
Residents have experienced periods of water discolouration along with a number of water reduction advisories related to ongoing repair work.
The last boil order for the full water system in Blacks Harbour was part of a major four-week repair of the water distribution line in Aug. 2023.
All work conducted on the water system has been completed at a cost to Connors Bros. and not taxpayers, according to the municipality.
In the meantime, municipal officials are currently engaged in a water exploration project to find an alternative source of water for Blacks Harbour.
The estimated $500,000 project is being funded by the provincial and federal governments.
