A 61-year-old man from Moncton has been sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to charges related to child pornography.
The case stemmed from an investigation that began in April 2022, led by the New Brunswick RCMP’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit, which looked into allegations of child pornography following a tip-off from the RCMP’s National Child Exploitation Crime Centre.
In November 2022, officers searched a home on Atlantic Avenue in Moncton, seizing electronic devices.
The man was initially arrested at the scene and later released on conditions while awaiting his court appearance.
He appeared in court in February 2023, facing charges of possessing and transmitting child pornography. In August, he pleaded guilty to both charges and earlier this month, he was sentenced to three years behind bars.
Following his prison term, he will be required to register with the National Sex Offender Registry for 20 years and provide a DNA sample. The court has also imposed restrictions on him, including a 20-year ban on communicating with anyone under 16 or visiting places where minors are likely to be present.
