The federal government is providing $563,000 to support women through Elizabeth Fry New Brunswick.
The added funds aim to address key issues such as feminism and colonialism within their services.
Saint John-Rothesay MP Wayne Long, who announced the funding at Elizabeth Fry New Brunswick on Wednesday, emphasized the broader significance of such investments.
“Unlocking economic and leadership opportunities for women will lead to a more prosperous and resilient economy for everyone,” Long said.
The funding will support various programs from Elizabeth Fry New Brunswick, including housing, court support, and counselling services.

Executive Director Elizabeth Clark expressed her gratitude for the government’s support.
“It’s wonderful that the federal government recognized the issues of colonialism and patriarchy,” Clark said.
She emphasized that their goal is to make their services more inclusive and effective for everyone.
Judy Murphy, special projects facilitator for Elizabeth Fry, highlighted the importance of this funding.
“We don’t leave time for deeper discussions and diving deeply into some of these issues so we want to bring those elements into everything that we do,” Murphy said.
She explained that the funding will allow them to take further steps in their work that are more inclusive and aligned with their values.
The organization said they plan to collaborate with Indigenous and immigrant communities to help provide tailored support.
