Firefighters rescued one person from a Saint John apartment building following an overnight fire.
Crews were dispatched to a building on Wentworth Street in the city’s uptown around midnight Sunday night.
The first firefighters on the scene found smoke coming from inside the building, according to the Saint John Firefighters Association.
“Firefighters used forcible entry techniques to enter an apartment where they found heavy fire conditions,” said a post on the association’s Facebook page.
“The bulk of fire was quickly knocked down, however it had spread to void spaces in the walls and ceilings of the building.”
Firefighters searching the building located one person who was removed and transferred to the care of paramedics for observation.
The union noted that six of the seven fire trucks in the city were on the scene of the fire.
No word yet on how it started.
