The long-time chief administrative officer for the Town of Sussex is preparing for his retirement.
Scott Hatcher will wrap up a 33-year career in municipal governance at the end of March.
Hatcher has been a tremendous asset for the town during his 14 years there, according to Mayor Marc Thorne.
“Scott has overseen our town operations during periods of economic uncertainty following the cessation of mining operations regionally and during a period of unprecedented growth,” Thorne said in a news release.
The outgoing CAO has also been instrumental in the town’s flood mitigation plan, which will receive more than $28 million in combined provincial and federal funding.
Jason Thorne, the town’s community services director, will take over as CAO once Hatcher retires.
Mayor Thorne said Jason has demonstrated innovative leadership in the management of the town’s community services department over the last 20 years.
“His work on regional initiatives such as shared recreation infrastructure and tourism as well as municipal projects as varied as urban forest renewal and public art development demonstrate the knowledge and leadership he brings to this new role,” he said.
“Jason’s education and his background align with the strategic direction of council and the vision that Sussex council, our residents and business owners share for our growing community.”
Hatcher will provide advice and guidance over the next calendar year to Sussex’s senior management team during and after the transition and will help the town moving forward with its flood mitigation projects.
