A man has suffered serious injuries following a collision involving an RCMP vehicle near Moncton.
The two-vehicle crash happened on Homestead Road in Boundary Creek shortly before 7 a.m. Friday.
The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) said officers were responding to a call about a possible impaired driver.
“While responding to the call, the RCMP vehicle was involved in a collision with an unrelated civilian vehicle on Upper Mountain Road,” the team said in a news release on Friday afternoon.
The man driving that vehicle was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, while an RCMP officer suffered minor injuries.
Homestead Road is expected to remain closed between Upper Mountain Road and Lower Mountain Road until early Friday evening, according to New Brunswick 511.
Because of the man’s injuries, SiRT has taken over the investigation. RCMP confirmed they were responding to a call on Upper Mountain Road in Boundary Creek at the time of the collision.
SiRT investigates all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence, or other matters of a public interest that may have arisen from the actions of any police officer in New Brunswick.
