Three people are facing charges following a two-month drug trafficking investigation in Saint John.
Investigators allege that an unlawfully at large federal inmate was living in a wooded area along with two other people.
“Police received information that these individuals were trafficking fentanyl and methamphetamine,” police said in a news release on Monday.
Officers executed a warrant on Friday and seized a loaded sawed-off shotgun, a sawed-off .22 calibre rifle, more than $37,000 worth of crystal methamphetamine and fentanyl, a bulletproof vest and cash.
A 49-year-old man remains in custody and is charged with:
- unauthorized possession of firearm
- possession of prohibited firearm with ammunition
- possession of a firearm contrary to an order
- unlawfully at large
- possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
- possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking
- possession of property obtained by crime
A 42-year-old man is charged with possession of a firearm contrary to an order, unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm contrary to an order. He has a bail hearing scheduled for Monday.
A 44-year-old woman is charged with possession of cocaine and unauthorized possession of a firearm. She was released on a judge’s order with a future court date.
“Fentanyl has become one of the most popular drugs of choice for drug users in Saint John over the past year, which has resulted in countless overdoses, numerous being fatal,” Det/Sgt. Tammy Spence said in the release.
