The Liberal Party has gained two seats since election night, bringing its total to 169, just three seats shy of a majority, as Elections Canada continues validating close results from the 2025 federal election.
One of the changes came in Milton East–Halton Hills South, where the Conservatives were initially declared the winner. After Elections Canada completed its validation process, the riding flipped to the Liberals by just 29 votes. The result will now proceed to an automatic judicial recount due to the narrow margin.
The Liberals also lost a seat earlier in the week in Terrebonne, Quebec. That riding was initially listed as a Liberal win, but validation determined that the Bloc Québécois candidate had won by 44 votes, triggering another recount.
As of now, the major party standings are:
-
Liberals: 169 seats
-
Conservatives: 144
-
Bloc Québécois: 22
-
NDP: 7
-
Green Party: 1
Further changes are still possible as recounts are completed and outstanding polls are finalized.
