A New Brunswicker is being recognized for her contributions to the welfare and well-being of children, youth and families.
Zoe Bourgeois is the recipient of the 2025 Erminie Cohen Compassion Award from the New Brunswick Adoption Foundation.
Bourgeois has lived experience, having entered the care system at 18 months old and being adopted at age 15.
“Through sharing her own adoption story and offering advice to prospective adoptive parents, particularly those considering adopting teenagers, Zoe embodies the spirit of the Erminie Cohen Compassion Award,” the foundation said in a news release.
“She emphasizes the importance of understanding trauma, using humour, focusing on strengths, being a strong advocate, and creating a supportive and validating environment.
Bourgeois has volunteered with the centre for 17 years, and has worked with the New Brunswick Youth in Care Network and Partners for Youth.
Currently, she is the family group conferencing coordinator with the Department of Social Development.
In addition, Bourgeois was recently named board chair of the National Council of Youth in Care Advocates.
She will receive her award during a ceremony at Government House in Fredericton on June 5.
