A man is in critical condition in hospital and a woman is in custody following a shooting that led to an emergency alert in Saint John.
Police said they responded to a call of shots fired in the area of Mabee Road around 5:10 p.m. Wednesday.
A woman was arrested at the scene and remains in custody, said police.
Shortly after 5:30 p.m., a man arrived at the hospital with what was believed to be a gunshot wound.
“The victim told police he sustained the injury caused by an unidentified person while walking in a wooded area within Rockwood Park,” police said in a news release.
Officers evacuated a large area of Rockwood Park and issued an emergency alert shortly before 10:30 p.m. Wednesday telling nearby residents to shelter in place.
Police said they now believe the victim and the report of shots fired on Mabee Road are connected.
“Based on the investigation, police no longer believe there is an active threat to the public,” said the release.
“There is sufficient evidence to believe that the incident did not occur at Rockwood Park.”
Police remain on scene on Mabee Road and the major crime unit continues to investigate. The emergency alert has also been cancelled.
