The Saint John Sea Dogs are losing their associate coach, the team announced Friday.
Jeff Hansen is returning to Calgary to pursue other opportunities, according to a news release.
He will be the head coach of the Calgary International Hockey Academy Under-18 team.
“While we are very sad to see Jeff leave us, this was the only and right decision for him and his family,” Travis Crickard, head coach and general manager, said in the release.
“Jeff is a great person, a good friend, and a detailed coach who cares a lot about the players he works with.”
Hansen joined the Sea Dogs in 2022 as an assistant coach and was promoted to associate coach in 2023.
Before that, he spent nine years in the Western Hockey League with the Lethbridge Hurricanes and the Calgary Hitmen.
“What an amazing adventure these last three years have been,” Hansen said in the release. “We are sad to be leaving, but excited for the opportunity ahead.”
No word yet on who will replace Hansen behind the bench.
